China: the first television report on AIDS will soon be on TV
Filming of the first television report on specific cases of AIDS was closed in the province of Zhejiang, east China, and should be televised across the country soon, according to the Office of the Provincial health.
This report called “The Red Ribbon”, consists of 6 episodes consisting of interviews conducted by a female reporter with doctors of the Provincial Association of venereal diseases and AIDS prevention, focusing on typical cases of AIDS in the province.
Hu Bingqian, vice-president of the association, said the report would provide a basic knowledge about AIDS to people, explaining how the virus is transmitted and that it could be controlled and prevented.
The report was conducted jointly by the Provincial Bureau of Health of Zhejiang Provincial Center of the monitoring and prevention of AIDS and the Zhejiang Phoenix Film and Television Publication Co., Ltd..
China had approximately 840 000 HIV carriers, of which 80 000 people have contracted the disease. The Chinese government has said that patients in rural and urban patients in financial difficulties should be treated free.
