China refutes report on religious freedom of the U.S. State Department

China has rejected the annual report on religious freedom issued by the U.S. State Department expressing its strong displeasure.

Commenting on the report on International Religious Freedom for 2004 released by the U.S. State Department, spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kong Quan said in defiance of the facts, the report was criticized unreasonable on the religious policies of China’s trampling on the norms governing international relations to interfere in the internal affairs of China.

He said China protects religious rights of its citizens under the law. All ethnic groups and welcome Chinese citizens freedom of belief.

“The fact is clear to everyone,” said Kong.

There is no basis for the U.S. to make irresponsible remarks and criticisms on the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of religion, said Kong.

Kong has firmly urged the U.S. government to correct its mistake and stop its interference in the internal affairs of China enjoying the religious problem in order not to bring negative impact to mission-American relations, said Kong.
