The Chinese economy will grow 9.25% this year and to around 8% in 2005, said Tuesday the World Bank (WB) in its recent report on the economy of East Asia ‘ Eastern and Pacific Region.

economic growth will reach 7% for East Asia and Pacific Region (except Japan), while the economies in the developing world will increase by more than 8% by report.

In the section on China, the WB said that if the Chinese economy suffered a downturn, it was likely that s’effecturait smoothly.

The bank praised the approach taken October 28 by China to raise interest rates, saying it was a signal that authorities are prepared to use the instrument interest rate after taking administrative measures to limit investment in overheated sectors in China.

According to the report, exports to the region should be the highest since 1988, thanks to strong Chinese demand, global economic recovery and a rebound in the global high technology. Investments have also been recovered, contributing half the growth in aggregate demand.

This strong performance has lifted 40 million people in East Asia poverty this year, most of whom are in China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, the report said.
