The outgoing Russian President Vladimir Putin was elected in the first round of presidential elections on Sunday, said Monday the president of the electoral commission, Alexander Veshnyakov.
Putin won 71.2% of votes, Veshnyakov said, stressing that these were official results on 99% of polling stations.
According to the electoral commission, voter turnout on Sunday amounted to 64.3%, far exceeding the percentage of 50% required for the election to be valid.
