Paris was applying for organizing the 13th World Championships of swimming in 2009, announced Tuesday the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in a statement.

Athens, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dubai, Moscow, Rome, Stockholm and Tokyo will be the opponents of Paris.

The selected city will be announced July 16, 2005 at the meeting of Fina in Montreal, Canada. A first information meeting will be held November 18 in Lausanne (Switzerland), seat of the Fina.

Swimming Championships events include water polo, synchronized swimming, swimming and long distance race in great basin.
