Discovery of Paleolithic stone tools in the south-west China dela

Chinese archaeologists have discovered three stone tools dating back 80 000 years in the district Hechuan of Chongqing Municipality in southwestern China.

These three tools, recently discovered in a Paleolithic site near the town of Weituo in the western district Hechuan, include two cutting tools and scrapers.

Lin Bizhong, a leader of the archaeological excavation team, said the discovery of these stone tools has advanced more than 50 000 years history of human activities.

This discovery has provided important clues for studying the activities and paleontological Paleolithic culture in this region and the Yangtze River basin, one of the cradles of Chinese civilisarion.

Archaeologists Bureau of Cultural Heritage of the municipality of Chongqing have discovered five ancient tombs dating from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), a tomb of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911) in the same region.

They unearthed three stone sculptures, a deer, a dragon and a tiger in tombs dating from the Song Dynasty.
