China and Germany signed Monday in Beijing, 19 documents on bilateral cooperation. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel attended the signing ceremony.

These documents cover the areas of technology railways, financial cooperation, dialogue on high technology, telecommunications, energy, culture and sport. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on the protection of intellectual property rights in the textile industry.

These documents were signed at the Great Hall of the People after the talks between Wen and Merkel.

Merkel arrived in Beijing Sunday evening to begin an official visit from May 21 to 23 at the invitation of Premier Wen Jiabao. This is the first China visit since Merkel took office in November 2005.

During his stay in Shanghai, the second leg of his tour of China tour, Merkel will take the maglev train to Shanghai high speed (maglev) to get to the Pudong International Airport. The Maglev project in Shanghai is an important fruit of Sino-German cooperation in technology.
