Chinese exporters of food products are being trained to better understand the limits of pesticide residues in food exported to Japan.

This training aims to promote Chinese government food quality and export of agricultural products in China, said an official from Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

During the two-day training, sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and State Administration for Quality Control, Inspection and Quarantine, the two departments will outline the expectations of Japanese in terms of container pesticide residue in food.

The two departments have already opened seven similar training classes in Beijing, Shandong (east), Fujian (southeast), Zhejiang (east), Liaoning (northeast), Anhui (is) and Hubei (central). More than 3 000 people from 1 600 companies have received such training.

This is intended to cover 2 000 export companies in China, representing one third of the number of Chinese companies that are authorized to export agricultural products to Japan.

China exports mainly agricultural products to Japan, the European Union and the United States. Exports to the first three trading partners have occupied 52% of total Chinese exports.

Last year, China exported 7.93 billion worth of agricultural products to Japan, or 29% of total exports to China.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, today more than 6 200 Chinese enterprises engaged in exports of agricultural products to Japan.
