“This has been shared by all participants in the six-party talks and as well as everyone in this building,” he said.
Mr. Lavrov, the Foreign Ministers discussed ways and means to achieve this objective, noting that this issue should be settled through direct negotiations between all parties concerned.
“We can find a solution to one part of ensuring the invulnerability of the nonproliferation agreement and the other, guarantee the right of responsible members of the NPT to peaceful use of atomic energy” ;, “he added.
Rice told reporters that Iran had no choice but to comply with the requirements of the IAEA and the Security Council.
She said the foreign ministers reached at Monday’s meeting, in total agreement that Iran should not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and agreed that it would take time to discuss the tactics to adopt in order to achieve this goal.
“We are taking the necessary time to ensure that members of the international community have the opportunity to develop a strategy forward,” Rice said.
She also said the political directors of six major powers would meet next week to discuss ways of advancing.
“The international community is united in believing that there must be a strong message issued by the Security Council to address Iran that its conduct so far nest not acceptable and must return to the negotiating table, “Rice said.
The foreign ministers of six major countries held intensive discussions on the controversial nuclear program of Iran on Monday, without making progress on a unified position.
