Four Palestinians were killed or wounded Wednesday in clashes that erupted in the northern Gaza Strip between militants belonging to the rival movements such as Fatah and Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement, in power).

The fighting erupted in the town of Beit Hanoun between activists of Fatah movement led by President Mahmoud Abbas and members of the auxiliary forces of the Interior Ministry headed by Hamas, Palestinian residents said.

Rescue workers and citizens have confirmed that intense exchanges of fire were seen and heard in the area of the city, and four people injured were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The clashes came hours after the factions and political powers Palestinians had resumed their dialogue and agreed to form a committee to draft a political platform for a new national unity government.

The two rival movements have clashed in recent weeks, leaving dozens dead and wounded.

Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), two other Palestinian movements have mediated between Fatah and Hamas, calling them both to return to dialogue.
