Jean Marie Guehenno, undersecretary general of the UN Operations in Peacekeeping, on Monday called for combining military strategy and development plans in Afghanistan.

“I think the military strategy must be combined with a political strategy and development,” said Guehenno at a press conference in Kabul.

The official remarks came as NATO launched a major military offensive in Helmand province in southern Iraq against the insurgency raging.
